What we look for

The attributes we value in our people

We assess everyone as individuals. While each of us is unique in our own way, these are seven key skills and attributes we look for in our Consultants.

01

Analytical & Problem-Solving Capability

An analytical approach combined with the drive to get stuck into a complex challenge. You’re ready to tackle difficult projects and always aim to exceed expectations.

02

Drive & Resilience

You seize opportunities, pursue excellence and develop quickly – pushing the limits of what’s possible. You navigate both highs and lows to deliver exceptional outcomes.

03

Curiosity

Fascinated by possibilities and opportunities, you’re drawn to new ideas, you dive into the unfamiliar and you’re committed to unlocking your own potential.

04

Empathy & Self-Awareness

You have EQ as well as IQ. You’re aware of the differences in the world around you and show empathy and compassion. You understand your own strengths and recognise where you can improve. You give and take feedback with consideration.

05

Team Spirit & Humility

Sharing skills, knowledge and working collaboratively is important to you. You know when to ask for help and when to offer it.

06

Exceptional People Skills

You inspire others and bring people together, because building supportive relationships matters to you. You enjoy simplifying complex issues and presenting them in a clear and compelling way to help others understand.

07

Agility & Adaptability

You learn and adapt quickly, and you’re always ready for more. Things move and change fast at Newton, so you’ll need to recognise your own boundaries and manage your time to deliver.

Development and progression

Supporting growth and career progression

There are so many ways for you to grow and progress your career within Newton, from getting stuck into each project and challenge to learning from those around you and gaining formal qualifications.

  1. 01 On-the-job learning

Each day on-site with clients offers you a new opportunity to learn and develop your skills. Every new project gives you the chance to dig deeper into real problems and get hands on in solving client challenges.

  2. 02 Learning from others

You’ll be supported to learn and grow by your development managers and the peer group you were part of during your induction. These are the people you can lean on and connect with throughout your career when you need guidance. Review days also offer you the opportunity to work through complex client work with others from within the wider community at Newton.

  3. 03 Training and professional qualifications

When it comes to formal training, every graduate consultant starts with our 5-week induction aimed at getting you ready for on-site client work. With a wealth of online training resources, you can develop your strengths and grow your skills within one of our specialist areas – Digital & AI or People & Change. As your career progresses, you’ll have further opportunities to gain professional qualifications.

Travel and mobility

On the road and on-site

Our meetings don’t often happen in meeting rooms. We work hand-in-hand with clients on-site across the country, so that we can deliver the best possible results.

This means travel is a huge part of how we work. It makes our role exciting and varied, and it keeps you on your toes. Sometimes that can mean early starts and late finishes. But we also recognise that having a positive work-life balance helps you rest and take care of your wellbeing. That’s why we never expect you to leave home before 6am on a Monday, be home later than 6pm on a Friday or work on weekends.
