UK Graduate Consultant Role

Kickstart your Consulting Career

Grow your career alongside the best and brightest as we translate clients’ ambitions into real world outcomes together.

Two professionals walking down a road having a conversation

From day one you’ll be a key part of what our clients call the Newton difference – our highly intelligent, committed and yet very human team. We are intensely collaborative, going as deep as it takes to make a meaningful difference through our work.

You’ll be given responsibility from the very start, working side-by-side with clients on site to shape their future success, from energy security to better patient outcomes, and retail supply chain resilience to rewiring public services. As you develop the skills that make a great consultant, you’ll see more of the world, build lifelong friendships with the exceptional people beside you, and have fun with your teams along the way.

Five great reasons to start your career at Newton

01

Immediate empowerment

Beginning your career at Newton means you’ll be plugged in and working directly with your clients from day one after your induction. You’ll be trusted to contribute immediately, immersing yourself in their complex challenges and making a genuine impact in their worlds. As you learn hands-on, on-site, you’ll see and feel the difference you can make.

02

Exceptional people

You’ll be surrounded by outstanding minds who challenge you to think differently, encourage curiosity and make a real impact together. Starting your career at Newton gives you the opportunity to grow at pace, while being supported by a team that’s invested in your development and success. Together we are one team and take collective pride in making change happen.

03

Tackle today’s most important challenges

The scale and complexity of the challenges we take on with clients means our work has real purpose. Governments, public sector organisations and leading global brands come to us when they need to realise their biggest ambitions, drive positive change or seize exciting opportunities. It makes working at Newton truly rewarding.

04

Meaningful impact

We are not consultants who hand out advice and then step back. At Newton we do things differently, acting as a strategic delivery partner to our clients. This means we implement change alongside them to make a meaningful impact within the organisation and the communities they serve. We stay until the change lands, and the results are real.

05

Global opportunities

This environment is fast paced, and you’ll be given opportunities for rapid progression as you work on projects with global leaders across the Consumer, Public, and Defence and Infrastructure markets. As part of our fast growing and thriving team you also may have the chance to work in a growing number of locations around the world.

Working at Newton

The Newton Consulting role

As a Consultant, you’ll work alongside clients and colleagues within a workstream to deliver inspiring, measurable results. Your work will be varied and challenging, and you’ll build a growing expertise by implementing Newton Core: our unique approach to problem-solving, client engagement and project delivery. With every project, you’ll form strong relationships with our clients, and help them build the capabilities to continue solving future challenges without us.

In-depth, hands-on training

We help you build a broad skillset as a Consultant over your first two years with us. This ensures you understand our business well and encourages you to explore your skillset and natural strengths in diverse settings and teams. It’s a crucial time for building the fundamentals of consulting and the Newton methodology. All our consultants need to possess this core skillset to thrive, regardless of the particular areas you work in while at Newton.

As an Operations Consultant, you’ll work closely with a variety of clients, mapping processes and analysing data to identify opportunities for operational improvement. You’ll plan and implement the changes needed to realise value and deliver lasting impact. You’ll work on-site, from the factory floor to the boardroom, and everywhere in between. Every project and every client is different, but our commitment to creating enduring value for them doesn’t change.

Specialising further

Once you’ve completed your core training you can choose to continue as a Consultant or direct your skills further in one of two key areas:

01

Digital & AI

Bright-minded and future-focused, our Digital consultants identify where data and technology can benefit a business. Whether that is using new tech or building our own solutions, Digital consultants bring industry-leading, even industry-changing, solutions to our clients’ challenges.

02

People & Change

Consulting isn’t a faceless business. At the heart of everything we do, there are people. That’s where our People & Change consultants come in. They’re experts in making the change we bring to our clients come to life. Whether implementing digital, operational or cultural changes – they work alongside people within our client organisations to manage change before, during and beyond implementation.

We don’t just support you with traditional training courses – we offer a core range of development resources that let our people shape their learning. From day one, your hands-on experience will be reinforced by regular access to your personal Development Manager and a wealth of self-learning tools. You’ll also have opportunities to develop skills outside your day-to-day role.

In your first two years as a graduate consultant, you’ll learn how to distil complex systems into simpler processes, calculate efficiencies, and use data to solve problems. You’ll develop the skills to manage stakeholders with confidence and empathy, navigate conflict, and build lasting relationships. You’ll also learn how to structure your time, prioritise effectively, and thrive in a team environment – while embracing Newton’s feedback culture to support your own growth and that of others.

As your career progresses, you’ll also be able to take advantage of a range of professional qualifications to ensure you are always developing.

Application process

We keep it simple

Our application is as efficient as the way we work – no cover letter required, and completion in as little as a month.

1

Application Form

Start by completing a short online form covering your education, work experience, and achievements. We welcome applicants from all academic backgrounds, though we do have a minimum UCAS benchmark of AAB at A-Level or equivalent. In some cases – such as where socio-economic background or extenuating circumstances may have impacted academic performance – additional context can be considered through our contextual recruitment approach, so it may still be worth applying even if you’re a few grades short.

2

Online Assessments

This stage includes a series of assessments designed to evaluate your cognitive ability and suitability for Newton. You’ll begin with a Realistic Job Preview Quiz, which isn’t assessed, and helps you decide if Newton is the right fit for you. Next, you’ll complete a cognitive assessment covering logical reasoning, numerical skills, and data interpretation, followed by a behavioural assessment.

3

Video Interview

This short one-way video interview is your chance to let your personality shine. You’ll answer three questions about your experiences, so be yourself and show us your communication skills. We have real assessors – not AI – screening these so treat it like an in-person interview.

4

Selection Day

Our virtual assessment centre is a chance to really get to know each other. You’ll take part in a group exercise, technical tasks, and a mini-interview – all based on real Newton case studies to give you insight into our work. You’ll also meet some of our consultants and have the opportunity to ask questions in a Q&A. We recommend brushing up on your numerical skills and preparing for the interview.

5

Final Interview

This stage begins with an informal dinner the evening before, where you’ll meet Newton consultants and have the chance to ask questions about our work, culture, and life at Newton. The dinner is not assessed and is a great opportunity to learn as much as you’d like. The following day, you’ll take part in two 45-minute interviews with senior team members – one focused on your skills and experiences, and the other a technical case study where you’ll work through complex problems with your assessors.

6

Offer

Got the job? Fantastic, we’ll look forward to welcoming you to the team! While you wait for your start date, we’ll stay in contact via regular newsletters and offer you the opportunity to join us at an Offer Holder Review Day.
