Graduate Consultant Role

Kickstart your Consulting Career

Join a team where your work truly matters. From your first day, dive into meaningful projects, contribute to impactful solutions, and make a real difference.

What you’ll do

Impact from Day One

As a consultant, you’ll work alongside your clients and colleagues within a workstream to deliver excellent results. Your work will be varied and challenging, providing opportunities to get to grips with Newton Core: our unique framework to approach problem-solving, client engagement and project delivery. During all of this, you’ll be forming strong relationships with your clients, giving them the self-belief and know-how to continue solving future challenges without us.

What is the consulting role?

Specialisms and Pathways at Newton

Complex challenges require sophisticated solutions. Newton understands that by building our core Operations, Digital & AI and People & Change capabilities, we will have diverse teams in place to deliver the best outcomes for clients.

We help you build a broad skill set over your first two years with us. This breadth of knowledge ensures you understand our business and encourages you to explore your skill set and natural strengths in diverse settings and teams. From your second year onwards, you’ll start to specialise in a more specific pathway.

These first few years look very similar for all consultants and are crucial for building the fundamentals of consulting and the Newton methodology. All our consultants need to possess this core Operations Consultant skill set to thrive regardless of which career pathway you go down while at Newton. On a day-to-day basis, our Operations consultants work hand-in-hand with a variety of clients, mapping processes and analysing data to identify opportunities for operational improvement. They then plan and implement the changes that need to happen to realise value and deliver real, sustainable change. Working on-site, from the shop floor to the boardroom, and everywhere in between. Every mission and every client is different, but our model of work doesn’t change.

What will you do?

Digital and People & Change consultants enjoy a strong foundation in our core methodology and demonstrate all the Operations consulting abilities. They then opt to specialise further as they progress in their career.

01

Digital & AI

Bright-minded and future-focused, our Digital consultants identify where data and technology can benefit a business. Whether that is using new tech or building our own solutions, Digital consultants bring industry-leading, even industry-changing, solutions to our clients’ challenges.

02

People & Change

Consulting isn’t a faceless business. At the heart of everything we do, there are people. That’s where our People & Change consultants come in. They’re experts in making the change we bring to our clients come to life. Whether implementing digital, operational or cultural changes – they work alongside people within our client organisations to manage change before, during and beyond implementation.

Learning and Development

We don’t just support you with traditional training courses – we offer a core range of development resources accessible to everyone. From day one, you’ll gain hands-on experience, regular access to your personal Development Manager, and a wealth of self-learning tools. You’ll also have opportunities to try new things outside your day-to-day role, all of which play a key part in your development.

You’ll develop the skills to manage stakeholders with confidence and empathy, navigate conflict, and build lasting relationships. You’ll also learn how to structure your time, prioritise effectively, and thrive in a team environment – while embracing Newton’s feedback culture to support your own growth and that of others.

Application process

We keep it simple

Our application is as efficient as the way we work – no cover letter, and completion in as little as a month.

1

Application Form

Start by completing a short form covering your education, work experience, and achievements. We welcome applicants from all academic backgrounds, though we do have a minimum UCAS benchmark of AAB at A-Level or equivalent. In some cases – such as where socio-economic background or extenuating circumstances may have impacted academic performance – additional context can be considered through our contextual recruitment approach, so it may still be worth applying even if you’re a few grades short.

2

Online Assessments

This stage includes a series of assessments designed to evaluate your cognitive ability and suitability for Newton. You’ll begin with a Realistic Job Preview Quiz, which isn’t assessed, and helps you decide if Newton is the right fit for you. Next, you’ll complete a cognitive assessment covering logical reasoning, numerical skills, and data interpretation, followed by a behavioural assessment.

3

Video Interview

This short one-way video interview is your chance to let your personality shine. You’ll answer three questions about your experiences, so be yourself and show us your communication skills. We have real assessors – not AI – screening these so treat it like an in-person interview.

4

Selection Day

Our virtual assessment centre is a chance to really get to know each other. You’ll take part in a group exercise, technical tasks, and a mini-interview – all based on real Newton case studies to give you insight into our work. You’ll also meet some of our consultants and have the opportunity to ask questions in a Q&A. We recommend brushing up on your numerical skills and preparing for the interview.

5

Final Interview

This stage begins with an informal dinner the evening before, where you’ll meet Newton consultants and have the chance to ask questions about our work, culture, and life at Newton. The dinner is not assessed and is a great opportunity to learn as much as you’d like. The following day, you’ll take part in two 45-minute interviews with senior team members – one focused on your skills and experiences, and the other a technical case study where you’ll work through complex problems with your assessors.

6

Offer

Got the job? Fantastic, we’ll look forward to welcoming you to the team! While you wait for your start date, we’ll stay in contact via regular newsletters and offer you the opportunity to join us at an Offer Holder Review Day.
