  • Newton joins other leading global retail and consumer goods organisations in committing to accelerate the world’s transition to a circular economy.
  • By joining the Foundation’s Network as a Partner, Newton’s focus is to turn ambition into reality – identifyingassessing and embedding circular economy opportunities, system-wide.
  • The partnership represents an additional step in Newton’s ongoing effort to use its expertise and energy to unlock a better future for consumers and businesses.

Today, [Tuesday 6th January 2026], Newton joins the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Network as a partner to apply their retail and consumer goods experience to accelerate the world’s transition to a circular economy.

As partners, our joint aim is to lead in tackling critical systemic challenges with the end goal of creating an economy benefiting people, planet and powering a sustainable consumer goods and retail industry.

Unlocking a better future

Tackling global challenges through the circular economy is the focus of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. Newton is proud to partner with this foundation to help turn these circular economy ambitions into real-world impact.

Newton aspires to play an active role in influencing policy and decision-making. Developing joint, data-rich thought leadership materials will demonstrate the business value of circularity – quantifying its financial, operational and sustainability benefits. This will fuel conversations and create connections at exclusive summits and roundtables on circularity in retail and consumer goods. “I’ve seen first-hand the powerful influence of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation,” said Wil Schoenmakers, Global Head of Retail and Consumer Goods at Newton.

Leon Smith, Newton’s Global Retail Market Lead, who is leading on our partnership with the Foundation, adds: “Combining our forensic industry insight with our close relationships with leading global retailers and manufacturers, we’re determined to create momentum towards a circular economy globally.”

Influencing the industry

With 25 years’ experience optimising complex global supply chains, Newton helps bridge the gap between circular strategy and go-to-market execution. As a strategic delivery partner for leading retail and consumer brands, we drive innovation across silos, using advanced digital tools and AI to embed, measure and ensure environmental, financial and behavioural impact. Leveraging our end-to-end perspective, we act as industry conveners, fostering partnerships and shaping solutions that deliver meaningful change.

This partnership complements our strategic alliances with key industry bodies and industry-shaping organisations, including our:

  • Partnership with the Consumer Goods forum to create an industry with a positive impact
  • Policy-shaping research on manufacturing excellence with the Food and Drink Federation
  • Data-driven work to reduce manufacturing waste and redirect edible food to people who need it with FareShare.

Leon Smith adds, “It is a privilege and responsibility that we can help make tangible, positive impact on people’s lives. Our role is not just to serve consumers; it is to enable and champion a better way forward for the businesses that serve them. I am excited about achieving this with Newton as a partner in the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Network.”
