Newton has signed the LEAD Network CEO Gender Equity Pledge, reinforcing our commitment to accelerating gender equity and inclusive leadership both within Newton and across the food, consumer goods and retail industry.
The pledge aligns with Newton’s own ambitions to build an inclusive, high-performing organisation, while also supporting collective action to improve representation, culture and opportunity across leadership roles in these sectors.
By signing the pledge, Newton’s leadership joins a collective of CEOs committed to taking measurable action. This includes building inclusive workplaces, embedding fair and transparent hiring and progression practices, actively sponsoring women and employees from historically marginalised groups, and holding leaders accountable for delivering meaningful progress on diversity, equity and inclusion.
A commitment rooted in action
For Newton, signing the pledge reflects our belief that inclusive leadership is essential to building resilient, future‑ready businesses.
Whilst the LEAD Network CEO Gender Equity Pledge is focused on consumer goods and retail, the commitments it sets out strongly mirror the standards we hold ourselves to as an organisation. This is about accelerating progress in the areas where we operate, and continuing to raise the bar internally. Despite progress, women remain underrepresented at Director level and above. The LEAD Network CEO Gender Equity Pledge sets out a clear ambition to address this, including a collective goal to increase the Gender Diversity Scorecard from 39% in 2025 to 44% by 2029, alongside a longer‑term plan to achieve gender equity over the next decade.
“Accelerating gender equity in leadership across our industries will require collective effort. By signing the LEAD Network CEO Gender Equity Pledge, we are demonstrating our firm commitment to delivering meaningful, measurable progress in this area.”
Steven Phillips, Managing Partner Newton

Newton has partnered with the LEAD Network because of its practical, action-orientated approach to change. LEAD brings together senior leaders and organisations to share insight, data and accountability, helping turn commitments into sustained progress.
Through the partnership, Newton will continue to focus on inclusive leadership development, transparent and objective recruitment and progression practices, and the consistent measurement of outcomes. Just as importantly, it enables us to contribute to collective momentum, rather than tackling these challenges in isolation.
“We’re looking forward to deepening our partnership with the LEAD Network. We know that inclusive leadership leads to better decision-making, stronger cultures and more resilient businesses. This partnership will support the inclusive leadership work we already have underway and help us learn from, and contribute to, wider industry momentum.”

Signing the pledge is a public commitment, but it is also a day‑to‑day one. For Newton, this means continuing to embed inclusion into how we operate, how leaders are developed and how success is measured – across all of our work.
It also reinforces Newton’s wider role in the industry: using its platform, partnerships and insight to support clients, collaborators and future leaders in building a more equitable, innovative and sustainable food system.
